Emo scenesters Fall Out Boy have had to cancel their world record attempt after nearly a week spent barricaded inside a hotel in Chile by screaming fans.

The American group fronted by Patrick Stump had it in their sights to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records for playing a concert in all seven continents in the shortest amount of time.

However, bad weather has put an end to their record setting dream, after they had to continually postpone their flights to the southernmost continent due to bad weather.

On Wednesday Fall Out Boy were told there was a one per cent chance that the weather would co-operate, allowing them to fly to Antarctica and play a set in a research outpost before a Guinness World Record adjudicator.

By Thursday, will the weather still terrible and impending commitments in the states scheduled for Saturday, they finally had to admit defeat and fly home.

Infamous bassist Pete Wentz told MTV: “It's the worst feeling I've felt in Fall Out Boy.

“We had this idea, and then to not be able to fulfill it is just disappointing, especially when you put it out there. But what are you gonna do, wait until winter's over?”
