M83 frontman Anthony Gonzalez has reacted after one of his songs was used in promotional material for right wing party Front National in his native France.
The clip of 'Midnight City' appeared in a promotional video made by Front National's president of youth electoral support committee, Julien Rochedy. M83's French label Naïve issued a copywrite claim regarding the unauthorised use of the song, which has led to the song being removed.
However, Gonzalez was not willing to stop there and posted on the band's Facebook page about his feelings on the incident.
"To my horror, I discovered that the Front National have been using "Midnight City" in one of their campaign videos." he said. "They are doing this without my permission, and I am appalled at their lack of artistic respect. At the very least, artists should be asked if they agree, or disagree, with being associated with a certain image or brand. Even the most commerce-minded advertising agencies and brands do so."
Adding: "In general, the music of M83 is apolitical, and I refuse to be associated with any party, and particularly the Front National..."
'Midnight City' has been M83's biggest hit in the UK to date and features on the 2011 album 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming'.
