William H Macy - star of Fargo and Shameless, screewriter, Emmy Award winner - but not a fan of One Direction. Definitely not.
Having previously gone on record as saying the global pop phenomenon "couldn’t put on a good show with a gun to their head", now he's told Billboard that he thinks they're 'wankers' and he'd 'like to spank them'.
Read his full quote in all of its glory below.
"My daughters are 12 and 14 so I listen to [SiriusXM's] Hits 1 a lot," he said. "There was a while there where I thought the pop scene was just dead. They would take a stupid phrase that was not clever and repeat the same fucking phrase until you were ready to leap out of the car. But they’re writing some good stuff these days. My oldest is really into Taylor Swift, so we went to her concert and she was great.
"Then we went to One Direction, who are a bunch of wankers. I just wanted to spank them — they should be ashamed of themselves."
So there you go: Taylor Swift = great, One Direction = spankable wankers.
Macy isn't the first to take aim at 1D this week, The Who's Roger Daltrey slammed them, saying: “Here we are with the world in the state it is in, and we’ve got One Direction. Where are the artists writing with any real sense of angst and purpose?”
Elaborating on the lack of movements and scenes in the current generation of music artists, Daltrey explained: “There are no movements at the moment: we had mod and then there was punk, but it’s so hard to start a movement now. Unless it’s ISIS.”
