After the death of John Lennon's first wife Cynthia Lennon, fellow former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have spoken out in tribute - as well as Yoko Ono and Cynthia's son Julian.

She died of cancer at the age of 75 yesterday (1 April), at her home in Mallorca in Spain with her son and singer-songwriter Julian at her bedside. Now, many have spoken out in tribute.

"The news of Cynthia’s passing is very sad," said Paul McCartney in a statement. "She was a lovely lady who I’ve known since our early days together in Liverpool. She was a good mother to Julian and will be missed by us all, but I will always have great memories of our times together."

Ringo Starr then tweeted:

John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono also paid tribute saying on her site:

’m very saddened by Cynthia’s death. She was a great person and a wonderful mother to Julian. She had such a strong zest for life and I felt proud how we two women stood firm in the Beatles family. Please join me in sending love and support to Julian at this very sad time."

Julian Lennon shared this photo with his mother, as well as posting an emotional tribute video on his official website:

Cynthia was married to John Lennon from 1962 until 1968, having son Julian in 1963. She went on to become a successful author.
