Mysie has returned with her new single, ‘Gift’ a powerful song about standing up to manipulation.

The South Londoner combines the minimal percussion usually accustomed to laid-back jazz or soul with synth and piano. This makes ‘Gift’ a naturally relaxing experience but the piano notes hint at a slight sense of unease. Mysie’s deep vocals revel in this space between relaxation and tension making her an intriguing narrator, as she hints at how someone has become close enough to predict her, it evokes the pain of realising that she’s in a controlling relationship. 

On her new track Mysie said, “‘Gift’ is about realising that someone in your life is puppeteering you. Saying what you want to hear in order to manipulate or oppress you. You’ve given up too much and now you need to get out”. A music video has also come out, filmed by the musician herself whilst in lockdown. Watch below:
