More about: James Vickery
A name you may have heard before, and if not, one you will soon know, is James Vickery. Vickery had a hit with ‘Until Morning’, a track that received over 25 million views on Colors. A track that will feature on his debut album Songs That Made Me Feel.
Vickery has kindly released 50% of the album prior to its full release Friday (16 July), meaning that 'Until Morning' and 2021 singles ‘You Comfort Me’ ft Earthgang, ‘Hourglass’, ‘Come to Me’ ft Musiq Soulchild and ‘Somewhere Out There’ are all already out in the wild. Spanning for a brief 30 minutes, it's the perfect album to play on loop. Album finishes? No problem - play again!
Over the years we have seen the likes of Paolo Nutini, Maverick Sabre, Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Estelle being the face of the last generation of British soul, but James Vickery has brought to this album a new wave of British soul that combines modern bedroom jamz with soulful vocal riffs and melodies to create both a distinctive sound and style.
Opening track ‘Rather Be’ really sets the tone for the album with a soft piano intro: a slow sensual R'n'B track set on the theme of monogamy, love and devotion, as Vickery vocal riffs with ease.
Album standout ‘You Comfort Me’ ft Atlanta hip-hop collective Earthgang is the full package. It harbours deep soul, blues, R'n'B, vocal riffs, and radiant poetic lyrics. Another standout is ‘Come to Me’ ft Musiq Soulchild, which brings that gospel and soulful edge old school R'n'B had.
Songs That Made Me Feel is an album you need to listen to with your eyes closed. Everything about these songs will make you feel, but it is Vickery’s voice that makes you feel the most.
Songs That Made Me Feel arrives 16 July.
