Amongst a sea of Instagram stories, Headie One arrived on stage at London’s Wembley Arena—a homecoming show that acts as the centre-piece for his ambitious and highly successful Edna tour. The North London rapper has surged in popularity since signing with Sony’s Relentless Records, and tonight’s gig is a fine opportunity to witness some of his chart hits in a boisterous live environment.

There were pyrotechnics aplenty as he ripped through cuts from his debut album. ‘Princess Cuts’ and the Stormzy-featuring ‘Ain’t It Different’ proved to be predictable highlights amongst a young crowd, while certain deeper album cuts garner a more muted reaction. An appearance from M Huncho certainly brings the gig back to life, with the pair trading bars in a thrilling crescendo.

Headie One has come a long way since ‘Know Better’, but the track still holds a vital place in his set—and is received with unparalleled excitement. Premiered on Link Up TV in 2018, it’s the first time many would have heard the now 27 year-olds potent lyricism – and tonight the track acts as a reminder not just of the excitement that surrounded his rise, but also how much he has developed as an artist.

Headie One’s position as one of the UK rap scene’s most recognisable names was only ever going to be affirmed by tonight’s proceedings – and with new music in the works, bigger stages might still be to come.
