More about: Claud
Camden Assembly’s reputation of being one of the most iconic London venues buzzing with the most exciting performances by up-and-coming talented young artists held up on Wednesday the 18th as two incredible acts took the stage. From hyperpop ballads to queer indie bangers, opener April and main act Claud certainly gave the crowd everything they expected and more in two electrifying sets full of energy and thrill.
With what can only be described as etherial alt-pop realness, first on stage, Irish new comer April swept everyone off their feet. A quirky choreography paired with heartfelt lyrics against soft hyperepop beats captured the attention of everyone in the venue. Whether they knew it or not, they were in the presence of one of the UK’s most exciting developing acts at the moment. From her very first EP ‘New Conditions’ to her most recent project ‘When It Comes To You’, the 22-year-old has successfully amassed a loyal following who will continue to grow just like her live set.
At the evening moved along, everyone settled in and buckled up for what they knew was going to be one hell of a ride. All of a sudden, the lights went down and ‘Eye of the Tiger’ by Survivor started blasting through the speakers as Claud and the band quite literally jumped on stage. Immediately, everyone started screaming in excitement in a way that was so pure you could already tell, the vibes were immaculate.
Opening with fan favourite ‘Overnight’ and featuring ‘Gold’, ‘Cuff Your Jeans’, ‘Guard Down’ and ‘That’s Mr. Bitch to You’, the delivery of the set was full of rock and roll moments, funny tech accidents, an improvised running song and even a ghost story (which explains why there’s no keyboard on the set anymore… long story). Claud’s innocent and pure banter with the crowd who were there to live through the songs they’ve been listening and deeply relating to for over two years was dazzling and charming.
There were also loads of really tiny special moments which cemented the idea that Claud is most certainly one of the most exciting rising indie pop stars out there at the moment. From fans handing them customised hand made hats and pride flags to the absolute head banging guitar solos in unreleased music that had everyone going absolutely bananas.
By the time the set was closing with two of their best singles to date, ‘Wish You Were Gay’ and ‘Soft Spot’, the audience had made best friends with each other and in unison they were singing every word as an almost nostalgic atmosphere started to be felt. Leaving everyone longing for more, it is a given that next time Claud is in town, the crowds will be even bigger and just as engaged which is something we cannot wait to see!
