More about:

If you’ve heard the three lead singles for Beatopia, you’ll have a good idea of what Beabadoobee has in store for listeners on her second full-length: trying to have a good time through confusion and complications, making mistakes but stressing to yourself that they’re not permanent and experiencing feelings that are tough to navigate but easy to define.

...these are ideas that have been swirling around Bea’s mind for a decade, but she finally feels confident enough to reveal the thoughts she’s grown over old concerns in this colourful, sprawling but charming record.

Plain in its pursuit of joy, this sophomore effort could easily soundtrack a pretty great teen movie and does a great job at fleshing out an enjoyable journey inward that looks back with a smile and moves forward with a sense of comfort. The appealing sharpness of her recent EP is condensed into a few bold corners, and that same roaring production is juxtaposed against intimate instrumentation that slips personal reflections under the cover of addictive riffs like that of ‘Talk’.

A record worth waiting for and a natural evolution expressing old sounds and new, Beatopia tops her previous effort with a broader but deeper showcase of tracks, living up to the attention she’s deservedly receiving, while yet again proving there’s still more to uncover beneath her nonchalant surface.

Beatopia arrives 15 July via Dirty Hit.
