Sam - 10,000 ThingsSupport act Ripcord look like they had taken a night off from studying for their A-Levels to perform tonight. With their Toni and Guy haircuts they look painfully trendy as they attempt to kick off their set with an instrumental number before drummer Roz has even sat down. After about thirty seconds they realise and start again. After a shaky start they pull off a pretty good indie rock and roll set with a bit of ska thrown in. Not exactly sparking a stage rush but generating a few energetic heads bobs from the crowd by the end of the half hour.

10,000 Things arrive on stage next all suited and booted. Now Leeds is officially the new Manchester of the music world this Leeds based six-piece are officially hot. The venue might be small but their sound certainly isn’t. Even though, the stage does struggle to contain the exuberant boys who are bounding round the stage like a pack of Jack Russell puppies.

For six guys in suits they certainly know how to rock, singer Sam Riley’s voice and manic performance are great value for money, as are the rest of the band who clearly know how to bang out a good tune. By ‘Eating’s Not Cheating’, they look like they are having great fun. The front row now has its collective heads bobbing at a speed likely to cause whiplash.

The raucous ‘Loverboy’ is rather touchingly dedicated to anybody who has been done tonight. I really enjoyed Talking Heads cover, ‘Cities’, and Sam’s apologies to any one who actually knows the song were certainly not needed. They all look very hot and sweaty - not a bad look - by the time we got to ‘Back to Mine’ and Sam forgets he is supposed to be dedicating the song to an audience member and stops to apologise. There are no low points to the quick-fire set and ‘Dogsbody’ is another rousing crowd pleaser.

The only disappointing thing about the whole evening was that the main act only played a 45min set and I could have coped with a lot more. On the plus side 10,000 Things may have finished at 9.55pm, but the bar stayed open till 11pm. Perhaps past the boys’ bedtimes!
