If something is 50% good is it still good? Like if you see a comedian tell some funny jokes but then start eating cat food, or if you see an attractive girl just to discover she has wheels instead of legs? Probably not. That’s the problem with The Hussy’s EP, of the four tracks showcased two are brilliant and two are just a bit average. Lets start with the good ones first ‘Tiger’ is a bobble hat of a song (Cosy and twee) part Kate Nash part Stuart Murdoch Hussy’s singer Fili delights the listener crooning “Love will always come and bite your backside, like a spider in between the bed sheets”. Next up ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ a punk pop ode to everyone’s favourite high school geek (Geez, I’ve got electric hair. And I get bullied by the people who get bullied elsewhere). At times it veers into Kenickie territory or one of those ‘Girls with Guitars’ pop bands but it manages to stay charming to the end. ‘We Expected’ and ‘Marty’ however are nothing more than mediocre indie pop. Essentially nothing wrong with them, but they lack the vim and vigour of their EP brothers.
