OI! Stop dossing around with all this psych pish, there's a war going on outside that no (wo)man is safe from and as a side note you probably couldn't source me some real acid sheets if I offered you 4x the asking price and a goodwill left handed thrown in for the japes. So if you aren't brimming with piss and vinegar enough just yet then get onto this rebel music playlist and get yourself ready to protest against these war criminals in charge.
The Exploited - 'Dont Forget The Chaos'
Edinburgh's finest and original not having it fellas. Best played before/after altercations with the law. Seen these lot at a couple of festivals this year, maturing like good wine, don’t try and mess
Eek A Mouse - 'Ganja Smuggling'
For all the 420 lot this one really, everyone feels naughty when a bit of the reggae reggae is on and I think that is the pull. Everyone likes to feel like a badman from time to time. It's a right rocker too.
One Way System - 'Stab the Judge'
Right my good pal Ed from ANTISOCIAL turned me onto this lot, dragged me to see them on a side stage at Rebellion up in Blackpool this year and frankly I was blown away. Best punk band I have ever seen with my own mince pies. Frontman is visceral. Drummer is out of this world and the guitars sound like chainsaws. The Fleetwood lads know what they are doing.
Johnny Cash - 'One Piece At a Time'
The man in black in rare form here, I honestly cannot think of another song that I would actually deem 'good' that I have legitimately laughed at whilst listening to. Every time. Also stealing from corporations is fine.
Selda Bagcan - 'Ince Ince Bir Kar Yagur'
Eastern voice in a western arena with absolutely zero fucks given. This lady knows her way around a bit of fuzz guitar, that never hurts. Political prisoner and general hard woman, this lady has all of her certificates in order.
Discharge - 'Decontrol'
Strong candidate for punkest noise ever committed to record. Has it all you see, packet-wank speed fast guitar playing, government baiting lyrics barked in a gruff Stoke accent and repetitive as. The only change in the music throughout is that gets louder and faster towards the end and that is the only music composers trick that I have any time for. Sadly Discharge went heavy metal so, you know, RIP and that.
The Red Skins - 'Keep On Keeping On'
Right. I love these boys. Proper working class heroes. None of that racist, speccy, wife-beating scouse nonse. Please see the video of the band performing this track on a channel 4 music show called The Tube in 1984 at the height of the miners strike in which of course they were ultimately crushed. The band brought on a Durham miner to give a rallying minute long speech during the songs lengthy intro, that was until the producers of the show silenced the miners microphone like a set of fassy holes. No, Channel 4 has never been liberal or down, it's the pits man.
God Save Ireland - 'Charlie and The Bhoys'
It’s a rebel music feature so, obviously. Sadly I don’t really know what I can about say without ruffling anyone's feathers and I really don’t want to be getting a knock.
Public Enemy - 'Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos'
Somebody has said this is the story of a draft-dodger. Don't be a prick. Say it with me; Black power, conscientious objector. Chuck D's voice is the most commanding thing I have heard set to music and Public Enemy were the last music act to genuinely threaten real political change. They shut that shit down fast boy.
Grace Jones - 'Pull Up To The Bumper'
This woman switches vehicles seamlessly and the message is always underpinned with a big old fuck you. Sexy little disco number laden with innuendo, Grace wanted to bang then. Grace wants to bang now. She ain’t ashamed but you probably should be.
Peter Tosh - 'The Day The Dollar Died'
Seems very dark to me that a great man with such a visionary message met such a sticky demise at the hand of gunmen. Rebels need to stick together. Song is also sick bra.
James Brown - 'Give It Up Or Turn It Loose (in the jungle groove)'
The baddest motherfucker to ever do it. Band are so tight and the drugs were evidently so right, this is pretty much my soundtrack. This is the musical bed over which the occurrences of my day are laid out. If I cannot hear anything, I can hear this. In my head I also speak just like James sings.
Right, that will do me for now, be sure to listen to my bi monthly radio show where there will be a little bit of that and a lot more swearing; make Wednesday night Cutters Choice night. Link here.
And come and see my band TEAR UP, worst OI! band in the country, it's been said.
