John Lydon has revealed that life within the Sex Pistols during the height of their fame was 'boring and impossible'.
It's been forty years since John Lydon fronted the band ‘The Sex Pistols’ and was a pivotal member of the short-lived punk movement that they helped create.
Lydon worked in Malcom McLaren and Vivian Westwood’s SEX shop in London (which boasted a huge range of punk and alternative style clothes etc.).
He went on to front the band that took the UK by storm with their anarchic ways and in their short lifespan The Sex Pistols were and still are the band that we all think of when punk music is mentioned.
Fame it seems was never a part of the singer’s master plan.
In an interview with The Big Issue he said “I am not a pop star, I deliberately walked away from that side of life, which was there, open and willing to accept me. But I didn’t want it. I didn’t want to be another pop star making millions. It is just boring. Impossible.
"I couldn’t justify it because I question myself all the time about whether what I am doing is the right thing. And once you have sold your soul to the money bags, that is it. You can’t buy it back. I’d end up another one of those horrid comedians that do those chat shows."
The singer abandoned The Sex Pistols to front Public Image Limited (PPL), which are still in operation today, he is still prolific in writing terms and has made numerous TV and reality TV appearances.
He may have said that making money was boring and impossible, but the former Johnny Rotten is like many veteran rockers who see they have a chance to cash out once again if they wish.
Are the remaining members of The Sex Pistols considering a reunion?
