Including a big International Women's Day show at the Roundhouse

We're more than just a little bit excited about the massive BBC Radio 6 Music Festival taking place this week across some of Camden's most iconic venues. The Roundhouse, Electric Ballroom and Dingwalls will all play host to some of music's most exciting names from this Wednesday through until Sunday (4-8 March).

Here are five reasons why we can't wait - and keep your eyes peeled for some special Gigwise live reviews.

Some of music's most talented women are playing

How about this for a line-up: on Sunday night at the Roundhouse, Nadine Shah, Jehnny Beth (of Savages), Anna Meredith, Kim Gordon and Kate Tempest will all tag team to make up one of the most epic line-ups the circular venue has seen in a long time. It's in honour of International Women's Day, also on the 8 March. More women on the bill to look out for: Asha Lorenz of Sorry, Pongo and Esme and Sidonie of The Orielles.

Mike Skinner is doing a DJ set

If he drops a Streets tune, Dingwalls will go crazy. Even if he doesn't, things are going to get pretty sweaty on Camden lock. He's preceded by a set from Mary Anne Hobbs and performances from GAIKA and new soul saviour Greentea Peng, too.

Eccentric pairings that work really well

Wonky electroids Holy F play after vibrant popstar Pongo on Thurday night. On Friday, it's a turn from black midi to open for Brittany Howard and Michael Kiwanuka. And on Saturday, there's a warm-up performance from Warmduscher ahead of Bombay Bicycle Club's underplay at Electric Ballroom. Here's to more eccentric bookings as disparate as our playlists.

Hear Disco Volador live

The Orielles released their cosmic jazz album Disco Volador last Friday. If you head to the Roundhouse sackler space this Saturday, you can see them play it live - thrift shop cowboys, bag your deals and see The Orielles open for The Big Moon.

Radiohead's Ed O'Brien is playing his first UK solo show

Billed as EOB, Ed O'Brien of Radiohead fame will debut his solo music to the UK in Camden this week. Not only that, but he'll be playing after Róisín Murphy and Kojey Radical, and ahead of The Selecter. Another unbelievable line-up pulled out of the bag.
