Thursday’s are our favourite day of the week as we still have a handful of Live In Orbit performances to share with you alongside our friends at The Close Encounter Club. Following on from Talk Show and Ugly last week, we are thrilled to welcome Ellie Bleach and Kt King to our intergalactic stage this evening.

Tune in from 9pm (BST) below to catch all of the action.

Taking to the stage first is Kt King with some of the most soothing vocals we’ve heard in a long time. When asked how the experience was for her, she said: “Quite emotional which I didn’t expect. It was the first time George and I had played music to an audience in a very long time. To see a project as brilliant as this ticking over in real life was beyond magic. I also just love singing into a microphone and listening to my voice hitting the walls and zooming back at me. Simply being in a venue was great! Last time we were at the club was last year to watch Happyness. That was one of the last gigs we went to. I think TCEC were one step ahead with the seated audience… likely to become standard from now on. Fine by me!”

And when pressed on if she’s ever had any close encounters of her own Kt offers: “My Grandma was convinced that aliens are real and that she’d seen them from her window. She was a huge sci-fi fan which definitely fuelled my obsession for Star Wars growing up. I knew the full name of Luke Skywalker’s uncle... I was on that level of pointless nerd trivia. I did used to believe in the force and my Mum nearly signed me up for a fairly local Star Wars church that some randomer set up in his garage. I’m glad she didn’t.”

And closing the show we have the queen of lo-fi synths and tongue-in-cheek lyrics, Ellie Bleach. “This was what felt like my first live show since before lockdown, I'd done a few live streams but being able to play a full set in a live venue and not just in my room for the first time in months felt great. It's a shame I didn't get to stick around for any of the other acts - the line-up is superb!”

On lockdown being fruitful for her creativity the singer details: “Not so much in terms of inspiration but during the first few months I really knuckled down and decided to finish every half-finished abandoned songwriting project I had lurking on my hard drive. I've been working on a new single now restrictions are being loosened, which is getting the old creative cogs churning once again. I've also been getting back into writing not just music and playing about with some short story ideas. It took five months of isolation for me to actually pick up a pen and paper again but I'm getting there!”

And if she was ever put on the spot and had to explain her act to aliens, Ellie has it covered: “I'd give them headphones and blast Hall and Oates while they read the Rush Hour Crush section of the metro.”

Tune in tonight from 9pm (BST) to catch Kt King and Ellie Bleach Live In Orbit. Whilst you’re waiting for lift off though, check out these behind the scenes snaps from our photographer Katie Willoughby and catch up with the rest of our Live In Orbit sessions here.
