A series to wrap up a preposterous year

More about:

If you lived through 2020, you might reasonably ask the question: what the fuck was that?

It's not been a normal one, that's for sure, and the time it will take to reckon with what's happened will stretch far into the future. Let's start by looking at how we spent the weirdest year in living memory.

We collared a bunch of our favourite bands and artists and asked them questions about how they experienced the year that all of us will remember forever.

Today, Lynks takes the quiz.

How are you, really?

Well as I write this it’s December 15th and we’re heading into tier 3. I’m quite sad about it. The real 3 tiers are the 3 tears rolling down my face right now. But also feeling festive! - ready to wrap myself in some cable knit sweaters and demolish a pannetone or three.

Did you watch Tiger King back in March?

I actually only watched the first episode. I think when everyone is talking about something that much, it makes me want to do whatever the opposite is. So I guess with Tiger King that would be watching… I don’t know - whatever the opposite of a Tiger King is. A Fish Queen? Unfortunately, to my knowledge, that show still doesn’t exist. Get on it Netflix.

What else did you binge watch?

I’m actually not a huge binge watcher. I tend to watch 3 or 4 shows at a time. Alternating between them, I mean - I don’t have 4 TVs on at once, all playing different shows. That would be insane. But, my favourite thing I’ve watched this year has been Top of the Lake - so good and strangely underrated.

What did you drink and eat too much of?

Nothing. In the words of Luther Vandross, “never too much, never too much, never too much, never too much”.

Describe a joyful moment.

Had a really nice mango the other day.

Did you take up a new hobby?

I got very into fermenting during the first lockdown. I was making kimchi, kombucha and kefir (or as I call them, the Hipster Kardashians). These are all very probiotic and good for you, but there was a point where I was getting through an entire jar of kimchi and kombucha every day. My gut has since transcended the physical realm.

What's the best thing you read in quarantine?

‘Such a Fun Age’ by Kiley Ried. Exactly my kinda book - completely unpretentious, easy to read, hugely entertaining and yet has so much to say about the world.

What's the best album you heard in quarantine?

Haim’s ‘Women in Music Part III’ is my album of the year.

What did you miss the most?
