Cherrypicked by This Feeling + Scotts
Gallagher-tested, Gallagher-approved, This Feeling have been a mainstay in promoting the latest indie bands from around the UK for years. They've tipped, among many others, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Blossoms, helping them reach as many people as possible with their career-firing tours.
In February, they lended us their expertise in the newest of the new in indie, publishing their annual 'Big In' list with us. Now, here, you'll find one of those bands spotlighted every week. Get to know them a bit better and have a listen to their latest tune. This week, it's Venus Grrrls!

What inspired you to start a band?
With the discovery of riot grrrl, we wanted to immerse ourselves into the world of women in music, and were eager to become a part of it in any way we could. Even if it’s just a small part we play in promoting the rights of women in the music industry, this was always our biggest inspiration and driving force. That and the passion we have for writing music together.
What's your favourite part of performing live?
I think the thing we’ve missed most about performing live is the community aspect of it, seeing so many familiar faces as well as new ones, too. You meet so many people from playing gigs, and we love that. Playing gigs is also a big therapeutic outlet for us as a band and as individuals, not having that has been tough. We’re just so eager to get back to it. We’ve got a Leeds headline on November 6th at The Key Club, so if you’re about come on down.
Tell us about your latest release.
Our latest single, 'Goth Girl', came about a few months prior to the pandemic, which ended up preventing us to get into the studio to record it. I think we only got to play it live once or twice before taking it into the studio, a lot later than we had wanted to. On the flip side though, the way things aligned meant it sounded just as it was supposed to. It ultimately celebrates female friendship while making a play on a fickle society, and how it’s always ready to point the finger at something. You can stream it on Spotify, Apple Music and all major streaming platforms. CDs are also available via our website here.
What do you have coming up?
We’re due to be in the studio very soon, and have announcements coming in due course, we may have even announced by the time this goes out, who knows! We also have more news coming on the live front, so keep a look out on our social media! @venusgrrrls on all socials.
