This past weekend, The X Factor rolled into Liverpool for the annual auditions, and were met with a major surprise... Hardly anyone was there.
Usually the X Factor auditions are a circus of people all queuing up hoping to make their dreams of being a singer a reality. Friendships are forged during the day's worth of queueing, with the thousands of hopefuls reassuring each other that their dreams are about to come true. However, this weekend there was a distinct lack of people, let alone undiscovered talent, waiting to be unearthed.
Liverpool Echo's Twitter account shows a distinct lack of people waiting to be given the chance to sing in front of the show's producers. Around 200 people were in attendance in total for the auditions, and not many were given the news they wanted.
So could Simon Cowell's monopoly over Saturday night television be on the slide? According to an X Factor spokesperson, "the numbers are actually on a par with previous years. Overall, we've had tens of thousands of people apply."
