Muse brought their new album to an enthralling set at Radio 1's Big Weekend last night (May 23) in Norwich.
The trio smashed their set at the festival in Norwich kicking off with the intense 'Reapers' which started with a flurry of spiralling guitar-tapping from Matt Bellamy before dropping into a full on thumping riff. The predecessing spoken-word segment to 'Psycho' had the crowd instantly shouting back the chant of "aye sir!" to the Drill Seargeant's demands, before the group plunged into the barmy riff of the lead single, accompanied by bassist Chris Wolsthenholme's creepy fuzzy backing vocals.
The group then harked back to old favourites such as 'Supermassive Black Hole' and 'Bliss'. A highlight from the night was new single 'Mercy' which featured an explosion of confetti and stunning visuals.

The group are certainly onto a newfound heavy trajectory, focusing in on giant distorted riffs which pays off in Norwich as a fantastic beginning to their new album cycle. Bellamy addressed the crowd saying: "This is how I'm feeling" before launching into 'Dead Inside'.
The band ended their set on a trio of classics in the form of a squalling-version of 'Plug In Baby', the singalong of 'Starlight' and the always epic 'Knights of Cydonia'. The drama within the closer is stirred by a haunting harmonica solo before a finale of fireworks and epic riffs. Drummer Dom Howard exclaimed: "Thank you Norwich, it's good to see you, it's been too long!" before departing from the triumphant set which was later praised by fans. Muse are back.
Radio 1 presenter Greg James even took to Twitter to praise the set in amusing fashion:
