Diplo has said that he doesn’t care if people trade or leak his records, as he can’t make money from record sales.
Speaking with The Sunday Times, he said: “I don’t care if anybody – and you can quote me on this – trades my records, leaks my records... I can’t make money off the sales, but I’ll make money off doing shows, or selling merchandise."
He also shared that he doesn’t think people “respect” dancehall music, as they “don't treat it like real music”. "Everybody is sampling it, everybody is taking the culture,” he said. “Even rap. Kanye's 'Yeezus' had three or four dancehall features on it, though you don't really know they are there."
Diplo also touched upon the fact that he is often caught up in controversy, such as his recent argument with an artist who claimed he used her GIF without giving her proper credit. “I’m, like, clickbait. I saw it with the GIF thing – I got more followers,” said Diplo. “People who didn’t know who I am known who I am now, even if they hate me. Is that a bad thing? Actually, no, in 2015 it’s not. Kanye proved that. All you need to do is be in their minds.”
Meanwhile, Major Lazer's Diplo and Walshy Fire took part in a Reddit AMA yesterday, during which they revealed an upcoming collaboration between Jack Ü and Major Lazer, one with Diplo, Jauz and Tinashe and another collaboration with Major Lazer, Iggy Azalea, Konshens and Benny Blanco.
Diplo was also asked about M.I.A., to which he said: "I think she unfollowed me again." Plus, he shared the lyric video for ‘Be Together’, featuring Wild Belle, which you can watch below.
