Lil Wayne's record label, Cash Money, has filed a lawsuit against Jay-Z for $50 million (£30 million) after his streaming service Tidal released Wayne's mixtape for free.
The Jigga owned streaming service released the 'Free Weezy Album' exclusively for Tidal users without Cash Money's permission. The label criticised the service's actions a "desperate and illegal attempt to save their struggling streaming service".
Lil Wayne has been a part of Cash Money since 1996 who claim complete ownership and rights to the rapper's discography. Their claim against Tidal details their contract with Wayne which prevents his music being licensed to anyone without their permission.
According to TMZ, Tidal's defence is based in the claim that they attained permission to use Lil Wayne's music as a part of the rapper becoming a partial owner of the company.
Lil Wayne is among many musicians that signed their support toward the service. Other sponsers include Jack White, Daft Punk, Chris Martin, Nicki Minaj and more. You can watch the trailer for the streaming service here.
