Following the release of 'Cascades' and 'The Shade', Metric have gifted us 'Fortunes' which, according to frontwoman Emily Haines, came from "a place of anxiety".
She could have fooled us though. 'Fortunes' is a headstrong and fast-moving slice of new wave glory with a shimmering production job and enough lyrical and instrumental depth to convert the most fervent synth-pop denier.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Haines said of the track: "It's kind of intense to look back on the writing of it, because it was a pretty heavy time in New York where I remember going through this thing of a lot of people leaving".
"The song is pretty emotionally intense. I don't know that I could have put more of my heart into that vocal."
