The Districts and Drenge kick off Reading 2015 with a bang

Nottingham and Pennsylvania know how to rock and roll

The Districts and Drenge have both already locked in some sensationally raucous sets at Reading 2015.

Having moved up from playing to under 100 people at the Festival Republic Stage, The Districts took to the Radio 1/NME stage with a heightened confidence from last year.

Kicking off with with the rollicking ‘4th and Roebling’ from their last full-length, A Flourish And A Spoil, the Pennsylvania quartet have evidently sharpened their teeth over the last year of touring. There’s a hazardous spontaneity that comes with The Districts’ live show - frontman Rob Grote sees to that single handedly as he tosses his weight around the stage like he’s wrestling something off his back.

Finishing their set with the gargantuan ‘Young Blood’, the whole band became animated, emanating a visceral energy that’s rare to see at these earlier sets. Grote polished off the set with an injury-defying leap off of the side monitors for good measure that was met with rapturous applause.

As The Districts wrapped up their set, Nottingham duo (now trio with the addition of a live bassist) Drenge took to the main stage for their biggest Reading performance to date. While The Districts thrived on chaos, Drenge’s M.O is one of tightly locked rhythms with some masterful use of noise.

‘We Can Do What We Want’ was their most well-received track warranting an, albeit small, circle pit - a rare sight this early into the festival.
