Jamie xx is currently the bookies’ favourite among the nominees to be the winner of the 2015 mercury prize, with the odds for In Colour currently sitting at 4/1 before the announcement tomorrow (Friday 20 November).
The rising electronic music producer’s debut LP, In Colour, has just passed singer-songwriter’s Benjamin Clementine’s debut album, At Least for Now, which is currently estimated to win at 9/2.
William Hill explained that Clementine pulled in about 50% of all bets placed since this Tuesday.
“Benjamin Clementine started the betting as the 10/1 outsider, yet he is the most popular selection among our punters and his odds have tumbled recently,” William Hill spokesman, Joe Crilly said.
A few other nominated acts have pretty similar odds as the race begins to hot up. Wolf Alice are 7/1 to win, while previous nominees Ghostpoet and Eska are currently sitting at 8/1. The ever eleusive and occassional Kanye West accuser Aphex Twin, folk-pop singer-songwriter Soak and punk duo Slaves are all slated to win at 12/1.
Ex-Moloko singer Róisín Murphy’s odds are at 14/1, while the former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes is at 16/1 to win with his recent solo LP. C Duncan and Florence And The Machine are both currently at 20/1 to win the prize.
The 2015 Mercury prize will be announced 20 November during a live broadcast from 9.30pm on BBC4. Keep your ears and eyes peeled for the winner!
Jamie XX chose to stream In Colour in full before it was officially released on 2 June after he was accused of wrongly using samples for some of his songs.
He previously took home the prize with The xx, can lightning strike twice?
