Weezer are a cult band synonymous with festival favourites like ‘Buddy Holly’, ‘Island In The Sun’ and the epic ‘Say It Ain’t So’. So it makes sense that they’d be in demand at pretty much all of the biggest festivals across the globe.
But one festival has a particular affinity with the cult garage rockers: the mighty Reading & Leeds. And frontman Rivers Cuomo may have just revealed that his band will be playing next year’s event.
The Los Angeles outfit last rocked the dual-site festival in 2010, with a setlist consisting of heavyweight alternative anthems and brilliant covers like Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’ and the Wheatus one-hit-wonder, ‘Teenage Dirtbag’. Probably the warmest received set of the entire festival, Weezer are just the kind of band that could turn a critic into a t-shirt-donning, arm-waving fanboy with the power of their formidable live show. Now they might be coming back.
In a suggestive tweet, which can be seen below, Cuomo claimed that his band would be a “nice addition” to the Reading (and Leeds) bill.

For a band who rarely tour the UK, this teaser has enough force behind it to whip up the rumour mill into a wild frenzy. Surely this all but confirms the place on next year’s bill, right? Or maybe Cuomo just really loves the raucous August event and is pushing for his band to clinch a spot on the bill. Whatever the case, please just don’t toy with our hearts like this.
After a great deal of speculation, Red Hot Chili Peppers were confirmed as the first headliners of next year’s festival. The 1975, Slaves and Courteeners were also among the opening batch of acts confirmed for the 2016 line-up.
