Michael Jackson’s iconic album, Thriller, has just gone 30 times multi-platinum. After recently reaching its 33rd birthday, love for the album never felt so good. The ‘Billie Jean’ album is the first album to sell 30 million copies in the US, equating to more than 100 million copies worldwide.
Within its first year of release in 1982, when the album was still a pretty young thing, the record went platinum, turning 20 times platinum by 1984.
Two months after the ‘Black or White’ singer’s death, the album went 29 times platinum. Buying into the album’s legacy seems to be embedded within our human nature.
Cary Sherman, chairman and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America commented on the ‘Girl Is Mine’ album, "RIAA has awarded gold and platinum records on behalf of the music business for nearly 60 years, but this is the first time an artist has crossed the 30 times multi-platinum plateau. What an exceptional achievement and testament to Thriller's enduring spot in our hearts and musical history."
Recently, ‘Bubbles', a screenplay which documents Michael Jackson’s pet chimpanzee, was listed by the Black List screenplay survey as the “most liked” unreleased screenplay.
Also, Sharad Chandra Patel is suing the Michael Jackson estate on behalf of his late son, Raju Patel, for not being allowed to finish his film. It seems like everyone wants to be startin’ something with the king of pop.
