David Bowie's friend and longtime collaborator Tony Visctonti has spoken of their work together on final album Blackstar - revealing that the record was Bowie's 'parting gift'.
Visconti has worked with Bowie throughout his celebrated career, since 1969's Space Oddity. Now, following today's tragic news that the 'heroes' legend has died following a battle with cancer, the producer has spoken of their friendship, and added that Blackstar was his 'parting gift' to the world.
"He always did what he wanted to do," wrote Visconti on Facebook. "And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way. His death was no different from his life - a work of Art. He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift. I knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn't, however, prepared for it. He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. He will always be with us. For now, it is appropriate to cry."
