Radio presenter, Fiona Winchester, announced that Prime Minister David Cameron had died, instead of music legend, David Bowie this morning.
Winchester said, “David Cameron has died” Quickly noticing her error, she corrected herself and said, “David Bowie has died.”

Twitter was quick to pick up on the gaffe, with tweeters being predictably unforgiving. “Very smooth from the radio news lady,” one social media user wrote. Another said, “Lassie on Heart FM just read out the news and said, ‘David Cameron has died’ instead of Bowie.”

David Cameron had already tweeted about the death of the music legend, “I grew up listening to and watching the pop genius David Bowie. He was a master of re-invention, who kept getting it right. A huge loss.”

The news of Bowie’s passing was announced via his Facebook, "January 10 2016 - David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer… While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief."
His son, Duncan Jones, tweeted, “very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.”
