Viola Beach may have been deliberately killed when their car crashed through the barriers of a bridge in Sweden last month.

All four members of the band, as well as their manager Craig Tarry, were killed in February when the rental car they were driving went off a bridge near Stockholm and fell into the canal below.

At the time, local police said that divers had recovered the bodies of the victims, and that the Nissan Qashqai they were driving plunged through a gap in the bridge, which had opened to let a bus pass beneath.

The inquest into their deaths began this month, and found that the driver - whose identity has not been revealed - had no alcohol or drugs in his system. "It looks like the driver acted deliberately," said lead investigator Lars Berglund, speaking to Aftonbladet.

The publication claims to be the only media to have seen surveillance video of the moment before the crash, which reportedly shows the car pausing behind two vehicles, before accelerating past cars and lorries and crashing through the barriers.

"We did not see any brake lights," said witness Kent Udden. "When he goes through one barrier, there is no doubt that this is something you should not pass[...] But we saw no indication that he was braking. We would have seen the brake lights, it was so dark."

The Swedish Accident Investigaton Authority have ruled not to push forward with their investigation, indicating that the driver was responsible for the crash.
