Ed Sheeran is being sued, after being accused of 'copying' Matt Cardle's 'Amazing' for his huge breakthrough single 'Photograph'. Check out both songs below.
Sheeran, with an estimated net worth of $16,000,000, now faces a $20million lawsuit from the songwriting team behind the former X Factor winner
Songwriters Martin Harrington and American Thomas Leonard claim that Sheeran's song shares a very similar structure to theirs, with 39 identical notes. In court documents, they accuse the 'Thinking Out Loud' star of "verbatim, note-for-note copying" from 'Amazing'.
"The songs' similarities reach the very essence of the work," they say. "The similarities go beyond substantial, which is itself sufficient to establish copyright infringement, and are in fact striking. The similarity of words, vocal style, vocal melody, melody, and rhythm are clear indicators, among other things, that 'Photograph' copies 'Amazing'."
