U2’s Bono has suggested that the best way to fight the Islamic State is to send in comedians such as Amy Schumer, Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen.
The musician spoke in front of a Senate subcommittee last night (12 April), when he discussed the Middle East and the refugee crisis. After urging countries who host refugees to see then “not just as a burden, but as a benefit,” he turned his attention to defeating terrorist organisation ISIS.
"Don’t laugh, but I think comedy should be deployed,” he said. “Because if you look at National Socialism and Daesh and Isil - this is the same thing. We’ve seen this before, they’re very vain, they’ve got all the signs up, really it’s show business. And the first people that Adolf Hitler threw out of Germany were the Dadaists and the Surrealists.”
He continued, "You speak violence, you speak their language, but you laugh at them when they’re goose-stepping down the street, and it takes away their power. So I’m suggesting that the Senate send in Amy Schumer, and Chris Rock, and Sacha Baron Cohen. Thank you.”
We’re not sure how Schumer, Rock and Baron Cohen will feel about this proposal. We await their response with baited breath.
