Earlier this week, Michael Eavis dropped some pretty strong hints that Glastonbury would be moving location in 2018, as an alternative to a fallow year. Now, it looks like that location might be Longleat Safari Park.
As previously reported, the Glastonbury founder recently told an interviewer, “I have never really considered retiring because I would miss the festival too much. That is why I don’t really want to have a year without a festival. At my age, I want to enjoy as many festivals as I possibly can.”
He added, “I am getting too old, and I don’t want to miss out on any festivals.” According to the publication, he then hinted that he’s planning “something special” for 2018, and that the event is likely to be held outside of Somerset.
Now, Loaded have reported that Longleat Safari Park is set to host the festival for one year only in 2018. “While Longleat is an unlikely permanent home for the festival,” admits the publication, “it looks like festivalgoers may have to watch out for the odd lion when Eavis stages a one-off event there in 2018.”
Eavis founded the iconic UK festival 45 years ago, after inheriting his 150-acre family farm. After being held intermittently for its first decade, it’s since been held every year - with the exception of fallow years, which are taken every five years to give the land, local population and organisers a break.
Glastonbury Festival 2016 takes place between 22 and 26 June. See the full line-up so far below. For more information on tickets and registration, visit the Glastonbury website.
