At just 18, RAYE has undoubtedly enchanted the country with her electro-pop melodies, as BBC just revealed her as number three in their Sound Of 2017 list.
With number two and one still yet to be revealed, RAYE joins number four, the soulful Jorja Smith, who, at 19, has gained a wide audience after the likes of Stormy and Drake praised up her debut track 'Blue Lights”'. Having already sold out her first headline tour, it seems Jorja Smith has a lot of soulful sounds to offer in 2017.
Nadia Rose was revealed last week as another young female to appear on the Sound of 2017 list. At number five, Nadia Rose has encapsulated grime fans across the globe with her fiery flair and bassy beats. Largely male dominated, grime has welcomed female artists like Nadia Rose, who carries her spirit high despite the dark tales of the streets. Rising alongside cousin Stormzy, Nadia Rose has already signed to Sony and is set to bring more bars this year.
With the top two of BBC Music’s Sound Of 2017 yet to be revealed, Nadia Rose, Jorja Smith and RAYE sit on top of a fantastic list.
The likes of AJ Tracey and Dave are also featured, bringing British grime to the forefront as a trending genre in 2017.
Anderson .Paak also appears on the list, having worked with the likes of Dr Dre, Schoolboy Q, Mac Miller, KAYTRANADA and more.
RAY BLK is another to appear on the longlist following her rise from London’s streets. Her soulful sound was also noticed by the likes of Stormzy and Etta Bond, resulting in a sold out debut show, a collaboration with Stormzy, and an appearance on Later...with Jools Holland.
The two top spots on this year’s BBC Sound Of 2017 list are still yet to be revealed this week.
