An 18-year-old woman was killed in a car accident near the Coachella Festival site in California.
According to Billboard, Michala Freeland was struck by a vehicle at around 8:15pm on Friday 15 April, close to where the festival was taking place. The victim’s family informed news outlets that Freeland was attending the festival’s Friday night session.
Freeland was taken to Eisenhower Medical Centre, but was pronounced dead an hour after the accident, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee that struck Freeland has reportedly been cooperating with the police in their investigation. Officers have said that rugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the incident.
This weekend's Coachella also saw the reunited LCD Soundsystem pay tribute to David Bowie in their huge headline set, and Guns N' Roses be joined on stage by Angus Young to mark the news that Axl Rose would be joining AC/DC as their new replacement frontman. Coachella continues this weekend.
Coachella’s second weekend at the Empire Polo Club, Indio, California, will take place between 22 and 24 April.
