“Max Jury’s songs and musicianship conjure up so many of my favourite elements of country, soul, gospel and rock ’n’ roll," says the man who should know - Mr Mark Ronson. "I can listen to his album on repeat.”
We couldn't agree more - and you can get a taster of what really makes this rising star so great in this brilliant live video for the resplendent 'Little Jean Jacket', which you can watch exclusively on Gigwise first below.
But first, here are five things you need to know about Max Jury - from the man himself:
1. "My first passion was basketball. Up until I was 14 I played on a competitive traveling team and went to college recruitment camps during the summer. But, I broke my knee and ankle in one fail swoop (not to mention I'm 5 foot 7 inches on a good day) so I picked up that proverbial pen and started writing songs."
2. "My debut album - OUT JUNE 3RD :) - was started at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and finished at my friend Stacy's house in the woods of North Carolina. For both sessions I sought out musicians from a gospel/church background to help achieve the sound I was looking for."
3. "The first gig I ever played with my band was opening for Lana Del Rey at the House of Blues in Chicago. I was absolutely terrified."
4. "My favorite song of all time is Pale Blue Eyes by The Velvet Underground but my favorite song right now is Keep The Family Close by Drake."
5. "I have a French Bulldog named Emmylou (after Emmylou Harris, of course) and she is about as stubborn as they come. We keep trying to train her but she continues to live each day like it's her super sweet 16."
Max Jury releases his self-titled debut album on 3 June.
