Singer/songwriter and drummer Phil Collins has stated that he would have opted to quit the band Genesis to join legendary rockers The Who.

During a webchat with fans via The Guardian website he was quizzed about a number of subjects.

The most interesting question asked was if he ever considered making himself available to The Who, after their original drummer Keith Moon died.

Moon was the original Wildman of rock and his band were too. TV’s through hotel windows and cars in swimming pools were just a few things associated with The Who in their prime.

Could Collins have matched that level of madness? He believes so.

"I would have absolutely left Genesis to join The Who," he said.

"They have a great drummer now in Zak Starkey, he is what they need, someone with the same stuff and confidence as Keith had’.

After leaving Genesis the performer has become a chart-topping solo performer and multi-award-winning artist. Including an Oscar for his work the animated Tarzan movie by Disney.

In recent years it had looked as if he had finally hung up his drumsticks, due to ill health, but that has all changed.

The rocker has battled alcoholism and crippling back pain in the past, plus injuries to his hands due to decades of drumming.

He has though recently announced a comeback tour in 2017(including a five night stint at the Royal Albert Hall) and released a highly anticipated biography.

The book is entitled ‘Not Dead Yet’. In it he details his highs and lows and how life on the road took its toll on his home life. The writing process opened up a whole new pile of memories good and bad for Phil. It is also written in the down to earth way we expect the man himself to speak, which makes it all the more enlightening to read.

"I was reminded about just how much I worked back in the day. It didn’t quite seem like it was so much back then though. We were just doing it (performing/touring). But when you look back on it, yes it was an eye-opener to see how you miss out on family life," he declared in the webchat.

He continued: "The only saving grace is that my kids have got busier too these days and now professionally they realise that time away comes with what you do.’

Phil Collins has been worrying fans recently with his appearance in public with a walking stick. But perhaps his reunion with his former wife, tour announcement and book release, he has turned the corner and will return to form.

There is also new release of a singles album available too.
