Ed Sheeran today released his long-awaited third album ‘÷’, and fans have been weeping along on Twitter all morning.

Posting hundreds of crying gifs, listeners have been enthusing about how emotional the record, which is likely to be the year’s biggest seller, has made them.

“‪#DIVIDE‪ makes me want to cry, do an irish jig, go somewhere tropical, and party all at the same time” one fan Tweeted, while another was “Sitting on my floor. By myself. With a daiquiri. Listening to Ed. Sobbing. I've never been happier.”

In an interview with the Guardian, Sheeran claimed that the record would probably outstrip his 14 million selling second album ‘x’, and also revealed that he once hit Justin Bieber in the face with a golf club.

“We went to a golf course,” Sheeran said of an evening after drinking with Beiber in a Japanese bar, “and he lay on the floor and put a golf ball in his mouth and told me to hit it out of his mouth. I was like, ‘Fuck, I need to aim this properly,’ and I swung. And you know in films when someone gets punched, and you hear that fake sound, like a slap? But in real life when someone gets punched, you hear that dull thud, a bit sickening? I heard a sound like the last one.”

Ed Sheeran is set to play a UK and Ireland tour in March and April, with tickets available here
