Green Day are set to be awarded with the Global Icon award at the MTV EMA awards on November 6.
A dose of punk will be injected into the A-List awards ceremony in Rotterdam next week, which will see the trio take to the stage to pick up the gong infront of a global audience.
The band - who have previously snagged three awards in the EMAs 'Best Rock' category - will join the likes of Bon Jovi, Whitney Housten, Duran Duran, and Eminem, who have previously been honoured. Impressive company, eh?
Bruce Gillmer, Executive Vice President of Talent and Music Programing said “We’re incredibly proud to have Green Day as this year’s MTV EMA Global Icon Award honoree" while praising the band's progress over the last two decades, " they’ve introduced new generations of fans from around the globe to their impassioned lyrics and raw musical power”.
Green Day will join Kings of Leon, Bruno Mars and Charli XCX when they pick up the award next week.
Meanwhile, the band are all set to release their new album Revolution Radio on October 7, following the release of their new single 'Bang Bang'.Long-time producer of the band Rob Cavallo gave an insight into new material earlier in the year, stating that frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is 'on the top of his game'.
The band recently played a private party for Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, descibing him as a down to earth Green Day fan.
A mini tour of the UK has been announced for February, with the band due to play dates in London, Leeds and Manchester
The MTV EMAS will be held on Sunday November 6.
