Hot on the heels of the release of Humanz, their first studio album in seven years, Gorillaz have announced details of a UK tour which includes dates in Brighton, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London in November and December.
And if the reaction to the announcement of their US live dates is anything to go by, the tickets are likely to fly out of the door for this one as well. Which is hardly surprising because the tickets for their inaugural Demon Dayz festival at Dreamland in Margate went in less than 10 minutes. Which gives you some kind of idea of how fast you’ll have to move when they go on sale this Friday (May 5).
It’s bound to good. Gigwise’s very own Cai Trefor could barely contain his excitement at Gorillaz’s recent secret gig at the Printworks venue in London back in March.
Writing about the gig, Trefor enthused: “What followed was an incredible cast of 30-odd musicians over the course of the evening making it on to the stage, with slick transitions, and not a moment of awkwardness or tepidness. As for the album, it sounded astoundingly cohesive, with the highs stratospheric and the occasional melancholic moment fixating.”
The animated band of Murdoc Niccals (bass), Noodle (guitar), Russel Hobbs (drums) and 2D (vocals) will joined on stage by the Gorillaz live band – Damon Albarn, Gabriel Wallace, Mike Smith, Jesse Hackett, Jeff Wootton, Karl Vanden Bossche, Seye Adelekan – as well as a selection of performers from Gorillaz’ past.

29 - The SSE Hydro, Glasgow
