Iggy Pop is back at it and working on new music, it has been reported - despite previous talks of retirement.
Seemingly unscathed by growing older, the 69-year-old punk legend has said that new recordings are in the works, hinting that the Josh Homme-produced Post Pop Depression will not be the last we hear from him after all.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Pop suggested that he is still interested on taking-on a collaborator role in various projects, moving forward from his latest album release this year: “I’ve made five recordings since then…But they were all recordings not where I’m about, ‘Hey, I’ve got something to say!’ No, it was just, people called me up and said, ‘Do you want to do a vocal with me, about this, under this circumstance?’ More like guesting. I would prefer to do that for a while. You know, there are people I like. I like the people I’ve recorded with — I can’t tell you who they are! — very much.”
The Stooges singer has already highlighted his openness to work with contemporary collaborators, with Post Pop Depression featuring Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders, Queens of the Stone Age's Dean Fertita, alongside Josh Homme. We can't wait to see what he's working on next.
In an interview with Beats1 earlier this year, Pop told Matt Wilkinson "I feel like I’m closing up after this… That’s what I feel. It’s my gut instinct." going-on to say "If you call me and you want to work out a deal to come and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ at your mother’s, something like that, I’ll refer you to someone but to really make a real album you really have to put everything into it and the energy’s more limited now".
We're glad we haven't heard the last of you just yet, Iggy.
