'Enter Sandman' stars Metallica have been very open minded about collaborations of late, and curiously invited Lady Gaga on stage to rock out with them at the Grammys. Despite the microphone problem she did a good job, kind of.
But seeing Iggy Pop, whose phenomenal album Post Pop Depression was one of the music highlights of 2016, get on stage is a whole different ball game. Whilst Gaga had to adopt the rock persona and change her image for the occasion, Iggy Pop probably slept in that leather jacket and tight jeans and he looked a natural fit with the band and didn't have to draw on any clichéd moves like jumping into the drummer or crowd in order to hype things up. He is a rock god and can do whatever he wants and people will still go crazy for him.
The spontaneously assembled band played The Stooges song, ‘T.V Eye', that's taken from the seminal live album, Fun House to treat the Mexico City to something special on night three of their shows at Foro Sol. The metal veterans captured the tone and energy of the original perfectly. Iggy Pop must have been happy with their rendition.
James Hetfield was very honoured to invite him on to stage. Moments before Iggy arrived, he said: "We're grateful that he's been able to be on this Mexico City tour with us. Please show a sign of respect and love for Mr. Iggy Pop!"
Metallica continue their world tour by heading down for three massive shows in South America:
25 Mar Sao Paulo Interlagos Racetrack, Brazil
31 Mar Buenos Aires Hippodrome San Isidro, Argentina
01 Apr Santiago Parque O’Higgins, Chile
