Welsh trio CaStLeS have announced the release of their new single, ‘Foresteering’. And not only that, dear reader, Gigwise is somewhat cock-a-hoop and giddy with excitement to be premiering the band’s new video which comes in all your favourite colours.
Regular readers of Gigwise will already be aware that, despite the editing nightmare that is the way they simply insist on sticking capital letters in their name, we’ve getting rather excited by CaStLeS round these parts.
Why so? Well, for us it’s that irresistible blend of pastoral pop and psychedelic wobbliness that carries on the lineage started by Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, Super Furry Animals, and Gulp that does it. And, given that they're from a village at the foot of Mount Snowdon and 20 minutes away from the off-kilter folly that is Portmeirion, you just know that things are going to get a little, um, weird. And that’s no bad thing. But don't just take our word for it - have a look here:
Formed in Snowdonia, Wales back in 2008 by brothers Dion and Cynyr Hamer, CaStLeS are joined by Derwyddon Dr Gonzo bassist Calvin Thomas. Their well received debut self-produced album, Fforesteering, was released at the tail end of 2016 and was recorded on a Zoom 16-track digital recorder inside a static caravan at Cynyr’s home in Ceunant, high up in the hills of Snowdonia. And it sounds like the start of something good.
They played last year’s Reading and Leeds festivals on the BBC Introducing stage CaStLeS also announced a couple of live dates.
CaStLeS play:
30 April – Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff
11 May – FOCUS Wales, Wrexham
