Sigur Rós performed an unreleased track last night named 'Niður' at their mesmerising show in Fox Theatre, Oakland last night (9 April). Watch it on Gigwise below
The Icelandic band, fronted by Jonsi, are currently in the middle of a tour of California, and playing new material from their forthcoming eighth studio album. The new cut sees Jonsi take to his guitar with a bow whilst hitting those high notes with beautiful precision.
‘Óveður' is the only properly recorded new track out so far - and that was released nearly a year ago. They're taking their time with this one for reasons unknown to us, but chances are they're just perfecting a masterpiece.
Live, Sigur Rós are one of the most powerful bands around. They've pulled out all the stops on this Californian tour; the flickering light show is used to emphasise eerie quality to Jonsi's voice. Meanwhile, the experimental approach to the guitars, and other organic instruments that are used to create a completely unique sound are a magical, beguiling force.
