One of the most unusual pairings of artists and venue imaginable will take place this September, when fashion designer Yang Li brings KK Null, Keiji Haino, JK Flesh and Ramleh to the Selfridges department store in London.

The shows take place as part of Yang Li’s platform and collective Samizdat, which has previously organised gigs by the likes of Swans and Genesis P-Orridge and aims to promote left-field artists which they deem culturally important. Their live shows are referred to as ‘Sonic Discipline’.

The abstract noise artist Keiji Haino and the pummelling KK Null will perform on September 1, while the droning Ramleh and the colossal electronica of JK Flesh, an occasional collaborator with The Bug, will appear the following evening.

In an interview with The Quietus, Yang Li described the space in which the bands will be performing: “It’s basically a purpose built 200-square-metre blacked-out concert venue down in the guts of the Oxford Street department store, there is a state-of-the-art transparent cage which will be used for visuals. Last but not least a very loud PA.”

On curating the line-up, he continued: “It’s really about the music we love, influenced by and feel like to be shown to others who may have never seen them play – essential experiences, also an interesting combination for the dedicated fans to see. We worked with Japanese underground artist Keiichi Ohta on prints for the collection so we wanted to present iconic and pioneering artist from the Japanoise scene.”
