Support comes from the newly reformed Doves and White Denim

Get your bucket hats and monkey walks at the ready – Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have announced a massive homecoming gig at Manchester’s Heaton Park next June.

The gig will mark the first time Noel Gallagher has played the famed outdoor venue since playing there with Oasis way back in 2009. So it’s rather apt that support comes from the newly reformed Doves, who haven’t released any new material since 2009’s ‘Kingdom Of Rust’.

Things are working out pretty well for Doves. Not only have they been added to this bill, they’ve also been confirmed as one of the headliners at the 2019 edition of the Teenage Cancer Trust series of gigs next March.

Also joining the bill are Austin-based rockers White Denim. Their current album, Performance, has been going down well round these parts. So much so that we were led to opine of the album: “There’s really nothing here that isn’t immediately accessible, and while White Denim still have their quirks, Performance proves that they’re a band that can appeal to those who want something to easily rock out to.”

And could there be new music from Noel Gallagher by then? Quite probably. Speaking earlier this year with Metallica’s Las Ulrich – himself an Oasis fan – Gallagher reckoned he’s got enough material for two new albums.

"I’ve got a whole backlog of songs, I write all the time so I’ve got plenty of material," Gallagher told the drummer.

"I’m going to make another record with David [Holmes, producer of Who Built the Moon?] in this way but the last one took four years so I’ll probably have to make another one alongside it in the more traditional sense."
