Draped in a luscious, silken coat of soulful warmth, Chartreuse create chilled-out tracks indebted to the eclectic genres of folk and jazz. Plucked from their upcoming debut EP Even Free Money Doesn’t Get Me Out Of Bed to be released 1 November via PIAS, Chartreuse are today releasing their new track ‘Midnight Oil’ with beautiful visuals.

‘Midnight Oil’ is a real slow burning, nurtured proposition, that creates space for transcendental harmonies and vocal lines to step forward into the limelight, while wistful guitar and piano work away in the background to form a collection of beautiful layers.  For the track, the band enveloped themselves within the comforting walls of their ‘rehearsal cabin’, to distil their sound and use writing as a form of therapy, scribbling away personal feelings, anecdotes and curiosities on scraps of paper. It’s a perfect track to curl up with on an Autumnal morning, with a steaming cup of coffee to warm your hands and this song to do the rest, a vital spiritual uplift. They have a really solid grasp of songwriting, in both simplicity and depth, that emanates warm tones.

Speaking about their second song shared here, vocalist Harriet Wilson explains: “‘Midnight Oil' is one of the first songs we wrote, and one of our most treasured. The foundations of it were written a while ago now, when we had a lock-up in Birmingham for all our instruments and amps. We were practicing for a tour and getting to the lock up first thing in the morning when it opened, and leaving again at 11pm when it closed. The person who worked behind the desk there used to tell us, 'you're burning the midnight oil!' and Mike stole that line for the chorus. At the time, we tried the track and didn't feel it necessarily fit with our other songs, so we let it breathe for a while. Later on, it soon fell into place and 'Midnight Oil' as you hear it now was completed. We are so proud of this song and are glad we found the right time record it.”

Chartreuse will support the EP out on the road with three headline dates in Brighton, London and Birmingham, all of which are free entry. Dates are listed below:
