More about: Chappaqua-Wrestling
Chappaqua Wrestling are a band who seek to create art that stands the test of time. In a world of low-res iPhone 24-hour-expiry footage, there’s nothing better than something shrouded in rose-tinted nostalgia to inject a dose of optimism into our Thursday morning.
It poses the question: why are we so in love with these nostalgia-style visuals? Possibly it’s because everything often looks so much better in hindsight - with the advent of social media, the ‘highlight reel’ is as prominent as ever, so sometimes it’s refreshing to focus on the simple things in life: grabbing a kebab, watching Eddie Stobarts fly past your window in the tour van, y’know - tour life. Chappaqua Wrestling have provided us an intimate opportunity to head out on the road with them, much like their tracks have the power to transport us to a different place.
In the video, there’s a beautifully tangible sense of friendship and focus on capturing precious memories - appreciating the mundane. It’s like watching someone’s intimate home videos: you can imagine them watching this back, sat in a worn out armchair in a flannel dressing gown saying ‘look at how much fun we had in a band when we were young’ - a souvenir of their life on the road.
“The song was written towards the end of our time in Manchester,” explain Jake and Charlie. “It was written with a retrospective in-look to scenarios and encounters that we came across in the city. The stories and setting serve as metaphors for moments and feelings that we continue to come across, regardless of the setting. In hindsight it was all pretty rosy.”
The pair are building up to an EP in early 2020, keep your eyes peeled for their next dose of Americana-inspired coastal groove.
