More about: Roy Ayers
Roy Ayers will release his first studio album in eighteen years via a brand new label called Jazz Is Dead. The brainchild of A Tribe Called Quest's Ali Shaheed Muhammad and producer Adrian Younge, it's the first release of many on the new label.
The godfather of neo-soul Roy Ayers will not be the only artist to release an album on Jazz Is Dead this year - though he may be the most anticipated. Marcos Valle, Azymuth, Brian Jackson and Gary Bartz will also release albums in the near future.
For now, immerse yourself in the first offering from the new Roy Ayers project: a delicious shimmering treat in the form of 'Synchronize Vibration'.
Muhammad spoke of the new venture, saying: "jazz artists have not only been an inspiration that has shaped my development as a musician, but their music is deeply rooted into the foundation of the Hip-Hop culture...To me, it’s all freedom music and Jazz Is Dead is motivating a movement.”
Ayers performed for a Black History Month series with Jazz Is Dead in 2018. The eight-track album was composed alongside Muhammad and Younge.
