More about: Ezra Collective
Ezra Collective are the next contemporary talents to take on one of the world's finest jazz tracks as part of the newly announced Blue Note Re:imagined project. Launched last week with a Jorja Smith cover of 'Rose Rouge', the compilation is set to air tens more covers from the very best in the scene.
For the second single off this inspired collection, Ezra Collective take Wayne Shorter's standard 'Footprints' and 'jazz it up', if you will. It's now a sprawling, upbeat interpretation of the original.
Contemporised and sharply produced and mixed, this version of 'Footprints' might well be the gateway to jazz for a new generation of fans:
On the cover, Ezra Collective said: "Footprints was a song we learnt as teenagers, and a song we’ve haven’t left alone since. It felt the perfect opportunity to pay homage to a hero of ours, Wayne Shorter, as well as document the journey we’ve made as a band since then."
Jorja Smith's 'Rose Rouge' is already here too, and expect plenty more where that came from. On The Blue Note Re:Imagined compilation, there'll be covers by the best of the best in the jazz, soul and RnB scenes: Shabaka Hutchings, Steam Down, Poppy Ajudha...you're next.
Blue Note Re:imagined arrives 25 September via Blue Note
