More about: Interpol
Returning for the first time since their 2019 EP A Fine Mess, Interpol are back with a new single and an album on the way. Announcing their seventh album, The Other Side of Make-Believe arrives in July.
But until then, the lead single ‘Toni’ is out now, alongside what is the first of a two part film instalment. Described as a “hyper-modern, cinematic dance film” by the director, this new vision breaks new ground for Interpol. Stepping into a bold new era, this first tease suggests fans will be well and truly fed with content surrounding the album.

Talking at their album preview event where we sat down with the band and listened through the record, Paul Banks described working on the album as “peculiar from the offset”. Recording during lockdowns in different places, the band were contending with poor connection, zoom sessions and general dystopia of the time. But the isolation allowed for a different sound to flow through: “We usually write live, but for the first time I’m not shouting over a drumkit,” Paul said. “Daniel and I have a strong enough chemistry that I could picture how my voice would complement the scratch demos he emailed over. Then I could turn the guys down on my laptop, locate these colourful melodies and generally get the message across in an understated fashion.”
Summarised neatly by Kessler - “Working alone was raw at first, but has opened up a vivid new chapter for us.”
A quarter-century into their existence as a band, Interpol seem re-invigorated and ready to keep building.
